ESPN first reported the news on Friday night.

The San Antonio Spurs were scheduled to play the Lakers on Saturday and Monday nights. Both games were set to tip off at 9:30 p.m. central time.

Spurs chief executive officer R.C. Buford released a statement late Friday night after the postponement was made official.

“We fully support the decision to postpone tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) Spurs-Lakers game,” Buford said in the statement. “It’s beyond heartbreaking to see the widespread devastation across the Los Angeles community. Our thoughts remain with all of those impacted by the wildfires, from families who have experienced incomprehensible loss to the first responders who continue to bravely fight on the front lines.”

It is unclear if San Antonio’s game against the Lakers in L.A. will still be played on Monday or when Saturday’s game would be made up.

“We obviously are going to work with the NBA, the (San Antonio) Spurs, the city and do what’s right,” Lakers head coach J.J. Redick said on Friday. “I want to play tomorrow. I want to coach tomorrow. I want these guys to play tomorrow and if we can play, we’ll play.”

According to the same ESPN report, the Los Angeles Clippers’ scheduled home game against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday has also been postponed.

The NBA is not the first professional sports league to take action in response to the wildfires in Southern California.

The National Football League announced the Los Angeles Rams’ wild card playoff home game against the Minnesota Vikings will be moved to Glendale, Arizona, to avoid any potential hazards, on Monday night.
