BCSO investigates fatal dog attack in northeast Bexar County

Family’s dog killed by two pit bulls

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attack in which two pit bulls killed a family’s dog in their backyard in the northeast area of the county.

The attack happened Tuesday on Oak Chase Street, according to the family. Animal Control officers responded to the scene at a duplex with a shared backyard, which was separated by a partition, BCSO said.

The altercation began when three dogs started fighting through a crack in the fence.

The dog that was killed was on one side, while the two other dogs were on the opposite side. During the fight, the two dogs managed to break through the fence and engage with the dog on the other side.

Michelle De Alva, the dog’s owner, expressed her distress over the incident.

“My dog was supposed to be safe in my own backyard, and he died in my backyard,” she said.

BCSO confirmed no people were harmed, and the dogs showed no signs of aggression toward humans, remaining docile throughout the incident.

Officers successfully secured the two dogs in their yard and blocked the hole in the fence.

Despite no citations being issued on the day of the incident, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are attempting to contact the owner of the pit bulls involved, and corrective action will be taken in this case, BCSO said.
