SAN ANTONIO – Blood found on a bumper and broken car parts were just some of the clues that helped Bexar County sheriff’s investigators identify two suspects in a recent hit-and-run crash, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies arrested 33-year-old suspected driver Carlos Garcia Jr. and 37-year-old Amanda Garcia, who they believe was in the passenger’s seat.

They both face charges in connection with the Dec. 20 crash that left a 45-year-old man with serious injuries.

The crash happened on Shepherd Road near Interstate 35.

The affidavit says witnesses described a white four-door car traveling at a high rate of speed and hitting something that they later realized was a person.

The man was thrown more than 40 yards, and the car never stopped or slowed down, the affidavit says.

Later, investigators who were called to the scene collected white paint flakes and pieces of a fog light from the ground nearby.

The affidavit says they determined the car parts belonged to a white Toyota Camry.

Investigators say they received a tip in early February that Carlos Garcia had been driving a white Camry around the time of the crash and had recently made repairs to it, which included replacing the hood and windshield.

The court document says they then tracked down the car, which belonged to Carlos Garcia’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Amanda Garcia, and inspected it.

They say that’s when they also noticed blood on the bumper.

Deputies arrested Garcia on an unrelated warrant, and during questioning, he admitted to being the driver who hit the man, the affidavit says.

It says he also told investigators his wife was in the car with him at the time of the crash, and that he didn’t stop after hitting the man because he was afraid.

A social media post from the sheriff’s office says the victim is still recovering from injuries that have left him unable to move or speak.
