SAN ANTONIO – The most romantic day of the year is still a few days away, but that doesn’t mean it is best to wait until the last minute to get a Valentine’s Day gift for your significant other.
Flowers and chocolate are widely known as the most popular Feb. 14 gifts. Because red roses are associated with passion and romantic love, KSAT checked out three San Antonio-area places to learn how much celebrating the holiday will cost.
H-E-B’s website features several options for flowers. A floral arrangement consisting of a dozen red roses in a vase costs $50.96. According to the grocery store’s website, a bouquet of a dozen red roses cost $20.78.
In the meantime, flower shops are gearing up for their busiest time of year.
“We haven’t stopped in six weeks,” said David Espinoza, Vice President of the Spring Garden Flower Shop on Brooklyn Avenue.
The Spring Garden Flower Shop has been in business for more than 30 years. Prices there vary.
KSAT found Valentine’s Day flower arrangements at the Spring Garden Flower Shop starting at $54.95 on Monday.
Espinoza said many people elected to order their holiday flowers online.
“The business has changed from a few years ago,” Espinoza said. “Young people just order everything online.”
KSAT also checked out the San Antonio Flower Co., a wholesale flower and plant shop on Broadway. One of the workers told us a dozen roses from there cost approximately $45.
By comparison, Texans are paying less for flowers compared to the rest of the country.
According to FinanceBuzz, a dozen long-stem red roses average $90.50 in the U.S., which is a 2% increase from 2024.
FinanceBuzz’s data also indicates that roses are the most expensive in Hawaii where roses average about $143.32 a dozen.
