SAN ANTONIO – One day before what would have been her 13th birthday, the family of a student killed in the Uvalde school massacre launched a nonprofit in her honor.

Tess Mata was 10 when a gunman entered Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022. She was one of the 19 children and two teachers killed during the shooting.

Tess Mata’s family said she loved her family and friends, learning TikTok dances, her cat and softball.

That love of softball is what the Mata family hopes spreads to others through nonprofit Gloves for Tess.

The organization’s mission is to provide quality softball and baseball gloves to children in need.

“It is our heartfelt aspiration that each recipient of her custom glove will carry forward her spirit and passion, ensuring that Tess' legacy continues to inspire and empower others,” the Mata family said.

A $100 donation to the nonprofit gives a child in need a quality glove.
