SCHERTZ, Texas – The Schertz Police Department is warning residents of spoofing phone call scams impersonating the department.

Police experienced “an inordinate number” of residents calling dispatch services recently due to a missed phone call, the department said in a news release Wednesday.

Police said scammers are spoofing a number, so the caller ID shows the department’s nonemergency number, 210-619-1271.

Scams spoofing law enforcement numbers have happened in cities around the country. In August 2024, Schertz police warned residents of a similar scam where people were spoofing numbers and claiming to be a federal Border Patrol agent and a Schertz police officer.

“We would like to remind the public that they should not be intimidated into providing personal details or financial information, but simply to hang up,” the release says.

Anyone in doubt about a call can make a direct inquiry with the department.
