Otto’s Ice House is named for Otto Koehler, the founder of the Pearl Brewery.

“The new ice house will pay homage to [Koehler’s] legacy: the good, the bad, and the ugly,” a news release says. “As legend has it, Otto had an extramarital affair with two women, both of whom shared the same name as his wife, Emma.”

Otto’s Ice House will reflect Texas history and be a “playful” continuation of the story of Pearl, the release says.

The five-star Hotel Emma at Pearl, named for Emma Koehler, is near the new restaurant location.

“The hotel is an exquisite nod to San Antonio luxury, a beacon for visitors, and a stunning example of adaptive reuse - a true testament to Emma’s triumph and resilience,” the release says. “Otto, on the other hand, got a beer joint named after him.”

The menu features different cocktails, including micheladas, “Honeysuckle Frozé,” “Damn Goode Margaritas” and “Otto’s Last Shot.”

The restaurant will also offer street tacos, Frito pie, German soft pretzels and more.

“I love Texas and I love a good story, and Otto’s is an opportunity to pay homage to both,” Goode said in the release. “Ice Houses and the Pearl are quintessentially Texan, and Otto Koehler’s story is too rich not to tell. This is a very exciting opportunity, and my team and I can’t wait to open our doors and welcome folks in.”

Goode is the president and chef of Goode Company restaurant group in Houston. He also owns concepts Credence and Sidebar in Houston.

“Otto’s Ice House is a fun addition to the Pearl neighborhood and we can’t wait to see San Antonio embrace its lore, welcoming spirit and refreshing menu offerings,” said Mesha Millsap, CEO of Pearl. “With its blend of history and hospitality, it’s sure to become a cherished part of our local tapestry.”

The exact opening date for Otto’s Ice House has not been announced.
