‘Spurs Lady’ Sovia Lauriano honored with custom-wrapped casket

Funeral services will be held for Lauriano this week

SAN ANTONIO – Funeral services will be held this week for Sovia Lauriano, who was also known in San Antonio as the “Spurs Lady.”

Lauriano was an ambassador for the Spurs nation with her colorful outfits, enthusiasm and dedication to the team.

She was described as the heart and soul of Spurs fatos, and a local shop is honoring her memory.

Josh Martinez, owner of Get It Up Productions, created a custom wrap for Lauriano’s casket. The wrap features the design and work of local artist JC Art.

“We wanted to take part in what she did for the community,” Martinez said. “She was a matriarch of our Spurs family, and for Hispanics to be connected with the Spurs.”

The design is a caricature of Lauriano. The pallbearers at her funeral are expected to wear shirts with the same caricature.

Martinez said he had met Lauriano many times in the past.

“My in-laws are actually a very big part of her life. They’ve worked with Sovia in retail for the Spurs for a little over 19 years,” said Martinez. “They asked if there was something we can do for the love that the family has for her.”

Martinez said Lauriano attended “one of my daughter’s birthdays. She was a lot of life that she brought to the party, a lot of monuments that she brought. she was really exciting, exhilarating to be around.”

He created the wrap at no cost to Sovia and her family. His business has been on the south side for 25 years.

“We want to make sure that we show love and we give back. We want to stay connected to our Hispanic community, our Spurs community, San Antonio itself,” said Martinez.
