BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – On the heels of a record-tying warm Monday and due to continuously dry conditions, the Bexar County Commissioners Court elected to reinstate a 90-day burn ban.
According to the county, the new burn ban takes into account dry conditions that could spur potential brush fires throughout unincorporated portions of Bexar County.

While the order is in effect, Bexar County officials said residents in unincorporated areas can burn domestic waste in a “burn barrel device with metal wire mesh screens.”
The county-approved device would curb the spread of flames, the county said.
Bexar County’s previous burn ban order expired on Jan. 27.
The commissioner’s court also suggested other ways to prevent brush fires:
- Don’t drive or park vehicles over tall dry grass or brush
- Avoid disposing cigarettes on the ground or tossing them out of a moving vehicle
- Inspect the work area to be at least 25 feet away from vegetation before performing outdoor welding, cutting or grinding
A violation of the county’s burn ban would be considered a Class C misdemeanor, with fines that would cost at most $500, county officials said.
