2 Kyle men arrested for asking to kidnap students as a ‘social media prank’

KYLE, Texas – Two men were arrested and accused of asking two Hays Consolidated Independent School District students “if they wanted to be kidnapped,” the Kyle Police Department said.

Authorities said two students, a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old, were walking home from Negley Elementary School when they were stopped by two men on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, Kaine Villarreal, 19, and Lane Burch, 18, approached the students who later told their parents.

The children’s parents contacted Kyle police, according to a social media post.

Villarreal and Burch were taken into custody and later told officers that they were repeating a “social media prank.”

The men are now facing terroristic threat charges, police said.
