WATCH: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott delivers State of the State Address

Address to be delivered on Feb. 2 at 5 p.m.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott delivered his State of the State address outlining his priorities for the 89th Texas Legislature on Sunday.

Abbott delivered the address, traditionally held in February, at 5 p.m. from an oil company in Austin.

Abbott’s address comes almost a month after President Donald Trump entered office for his second term.

Hitting the ground running, Trump issued a flurry of executive orders backed by a commitment to address what he says is a crisis at the Texas-Mexico border.

In the days following directives from Washington, Abbott issued his support for border control measures, even going as far as to order state police to help federal agents with immigration enforcement efforts.

The address comes as the 89th Legislative Session kicked off in mid-January; it runs until June 2.

“Texas is the blueprint for America’s future,” Abbott said. “This 89th Legislative Session brings new opportunities for the Texas Legislature and statewide leaders to strengthen our national and global position as the beacon of economic opportunity, prosperity, and individual liberty. From becoming the eighth largest economy in the world to safeguarding the freedoms that make Texas great, we are working tirelessly to accomplish what seems impossible. Working together, we will continue to build a stronger Texas for generations.”

School vouchers and continued investment in water infrastructure across the state will likely be top of mind for Abbott. He is expected to formally issue his priorities for lawmakers during the address.
