GRUENE, Texas – A new parking facility is set to open later this year and will provide extra parking spots for the Gruene Historic District.

Molak Corporation, the parent company of Gruene Hall and Gristmill River Restaurant, broke ground on the new facility earlier this month.

The facility will span approximately 10 acres and have more than 800 parking spots.

The decision for the new parking facility stems from extensive collaboration with local homeowners and the City of New Braunfels. In a public meeting last year, residents said they approved of the project, according to a news release.

“We are grateful for the community’s support and are excited to begin construction on this much-needed parking facility,” said Ryan Weinbrandt, CEO of Molak Corporation. “Our goal is to improve accessibility for visitors while maintaining the historic character that makes Gruene so special.”

The parking facility will feature environmentally friendly elements, including a permeable base between drive aisles and a detention pond, which will utilize rainwater and reduce runoff. Dozens of trees will be planted, and native landscaping will be done to support local biodiversity.

While construction is underway, shuttle services will take visitors to and from the Gruene Hall area.

The anticipated completion date is late spring 2025.
