The highlight of today’s celebration was the reveal of their new mascot, Baxter the robot.
“It’s just a really fun, interactive way to get kids thinking about what the future’s going to look like. Robots are you’re seeing are coming into life more actively as care givers and home running errands. Soon, drones will be delivering things to your home. So we really want to make sure that kids are excited about technology and not intimidated by it.”Menelly said.
Baxter’s mission is to keep minds at play and remind everyone that learning can be joyful at any age.
You’ll be able to meet Baxter at pop up programming the DoSeum holds around town throughout the year.
The DoSeum’s impact
Since opening in 2015, The DoSeum has hosted over 3.5 million guests. With 8,000 square feet of interactive space and over 250 exhibits, the museum continuously provides enriching experiences in STEM, arts and literacy for children ages zero to 11.
Aside from being a children’s museum, The DoSeum also serves as a resource for San Antonio’s educational ecosystem by having long-standing research partnerships with area colleges and universities.
Looking to the next 10 years
Over the next decade, the museum plans to introduce new, innovative themes to camps, workshops and other programs.
Something new parents can look forward to is a focus on ceramics. This will give children the opportunity for hands-on experiences in a tactile art form.
The DoSeum also says they will be dedicated to research and evaluation to strengthen their educational programs.
“This research will inform The DoSeum’s focus on growth for sustainable placemaking, fully integrated experience design, exemplary informal STEM education, and engaging learners of all profiles,” a release stated.
