SEGUIN, Texas – A man was killed after he was pinned between a trailer and a building at a Seguin bottle factory, the Seguin Police Department said in a news release.

The incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 1700 block of 8th St. at the Niagara Bottling, LLC. factory.

Upon arrival, Seguin police officers said that the victim, identified as 39-year-old Arlen Vargas, was pinned between a tractor-trailer and a building.

Authorities said Vargas was originally there as a driver with a different company.

Seguin police said he exited his vehicle and was near the building where he was crushed. However, the department said it is unclear why Vargas left his vehicle.

The truck driver involved in the crash told police he was permitted to back into the loading dock area and wait for further instructions.

After a Niagara employee requested the driver to reposition the trailer slightly, Seguin police said the driver moved the vehicle.

Moments later, employees discovered Vargas trapped behind the trailer when they opened the loading dock’s door. They instructed the driver to move the truck to free him, Seguin police said.

Authorities said employees began to perform CPR. Once first responders arrived at the scene, they continued to perform CPR on Vargas.

Officers said he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed at this time, Seguin police said.

The Seguin Police Department said its Criminal Investigation Division will investigate Vargas' death.
