SAN ANTONIO – As the city sees frigid temperatures, advocates are urging anyone experiencing homelessness to seek help to stay safe and warm.
Jack Bolgren, a homeless response coordinator for Christian Assistance Ministry, said he knows firsthand the dangers of being unsheltered during extreme weather.
“I came from homelessness myself, and it was during the time where people were literally freezing and dying outside ... right during that snow-vid era,” he said.
Bolgren emphasized that asking for help could save lives, especially for those without shelter during cold weather conditions.
“When you get to this point of desperation ... it’s not that much of a pitch,” Bolgren said. “If you want help in this city ... there is somebody here to help you.”
Bolgren said the Christian Assistance Ministry provides blankets, food, hygiene kits, and more for those experiencing homelessness, even if they choose not to engage with the ministry’s services.
