Couples can get married for free on Valentine’s Day at Bexar County Courthouse

Couples marry at Bexar County Courthouse; some other ways to celebrate Valentine's Day

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Courthouse is continuing its tradition of hosting free wedding ceremonies on Valentine’s Day.

County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark will conduct free mass wedding ceremonies on Feb. 14 on the north steps of the Bexar County Courthouse located at 100 Dolorosa St.

The schedule for the events and ceremonies are listed below:

Thursday, Feb. 13

  • 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. – A newlywed block party will be hosted by Main Plaza Conservancy on Main Plaza grounds. There will be no wedding ceremonies during this time.

Friday, Feb. 14

  • 12:01 a.m. – Midnight wedding ceremony. The first 50 couples will receive a rose donated by The Last Straw Florist flower shop.
  • 10 a.m. – Wedding ceremony.
  • 12 p.m. – United States Postal Service Postmaster Robert D. Carr Jr. will unveil the 2025 Love Stamp. Wedding ceremony.
  • 2 p.m. – Final wedding ceremony.

The ceremony is free but there is a suggested $20 donation to benefit the Bexar County Family Justice Center.

Small local businesses will have giveaways, treats and prizes to celebrate the newlyweds.

Couples will need to obtain a marriage license 72 hours before the ceremony they choose to attend, unless:

  • An applicant is a member of the U.S. armed forces and is on active duty; or
  • The applicants complete a premarital education course approved by the state of Texas and provides the course completion certificate to the county clerk; or
  • A judge waives the waiting period for good cause.

Marriage licenses can be obtained for $80 from the Bexar County Clerk’s Office. The office is located on the first floor of the Paul Elizondo Tower at 101 W. Nueva St., Ste. 120, Southside Annex at 3505 Pleasanton Road, or at one of the “Records on the Run” mobile unit locations.

Both applicants must provide proof of identity, age and social security number.

The Clerk’s Office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, with the exception of holidays. Extended hours are on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
