SAN ANTONIO – One day after Donald Trump was inaugurated and signed dozens of executive orders, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg revealed some of those orders forced him to cancel an economic development trip to France and another trip to Colombia.
The France trip was expected to coincide with the San Antonio Spurs' two-game excursion this week in Paris.
The mayor’s office confirmed to KSAT that he also had not gone on a planned trip to Colombia.
Nirenberg said he changed his plans due to Trump’s new policies, one of which targets birthright citizenship, and rumors of mass deportation raids.
“These executive orders are causing a tremendous amount of fear and uncertainty in how they’re going to play out,” Nirenberg said, in part, during a KSAT Q&A segment on Tuesday during the 6 O’Clock News. “So, obviously, I’m here (in San Antonio) to make sure that we address those issues accordingly and that our community continues to be a beacon of humanity.”
Among the orders signed by Trump included an order on so-called sanctuary cities.
