SCHERTZ, Texas – The Schertz Police Department is searching for a man accused of trying to abduct a 10-year-old boy.

Officers responded to a call about a man attempting to lure the boy into a van at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 12500 block of Barr Way, the department said.

The child ran from the scene and was unharmed.

The suspect is about 6 feet tall and was wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask, according to police. He was driving a white van, possibly a Chevrolet, with ladders on top, black rims, tinted windows and a rusted front grille guard.

Police Chief Jim Lowery said the department will increase patrols in the immediate area.

Police urge community members to review any surveillance footage they have that may provide information about the suspect.

“We commend the child for not approaching the vehicle and for seeking help,” Lowery said. “Please take the time to speak to your children and remind them about stranger danger.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the attempted abduction is asked to call Schertz police at 210-619-1200 and ask for Detective Ian McMath or Sgt. Daniel Trevino.
