ME’s office identifies 11-year-old boy killed in house fire in south Bexar County

Drew Moreno died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified an 11-year-old boy who was killed in a house fire in far south Bexar County on Monday.

Drew Moreno died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation, the medical examiner’s office confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

The medical examiner’s office has not ruled on Moreno’s manner of death.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 6:30 p.m. at 20915 Spanish Grant Road.

Isaac Neri, a Bexar County Fire Marshal spokesperson, confirmed Moreno’s death to KSAT on Tuesday afternoon.

The house was deemed a total loss, and Red Cross is helping the affected family, Neri said.

The spokesperson said the fire is believed to have started in the mobile home’s bathroom. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Moreno’s school announced his passing in a statement obtained by KSAT on Wednesday.
