Texas teen accidentally shoots and kills brother, father dies while trying to save son, police say

The father of the teens suffered a medical episode while trying to save his son, according to police

TEXAS CITY, Texas – A father died while trying to save his 17-year-old son after the teen was accidentally shot by his 15-year-old brother, according to the Texas City Police Department.

Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, Texas City officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of 10th Avenue North.

Police determined a 15-year-old boy, who they did not name, accidentally discharged a firearm, fatally shooting his 17-year-old brother, Joshua Gonzales, officers said in a statement.

While attempting to save Gonzales, the father of the teens, Julian Gonzales, suffered a medical episode and died, according to police.

The 15-year-old was questioned by detectives and released pending further investigation.

Texas City is located in Galveston County, just northwest of the city of Galveston.
