Hondo High School’s FFA Meats team wins Reserve National Champion title

Five students were named finalists

HONDO, Texas – The Hondo High School’s FFA Meats team was named the Reserve National Champion over the weekend.

Five students from the Hondo High School FFA Meats team competed against teams from across the U.S. at Colorado State University and came home as champions.

Senior Carynn Jacobs, sophomores Carter Jacobs and Ava Lowe, and recent graduates Ryan Gilliam and Cooper Molitor were the five students who placed in the championship.

  • Carynn Jacobs placed fourth in the high individual in retail ID and third in the high individual overall
  • Ryan Gilliam was awarded high individual in placing classes
  • Cooper Molitor placed third in the high individual in beef grading

As a team, Hondo High School placed:

  • First in the high team in retail ID
  • Second in the high team in placing classes
  • Second in the high team in beef grading
  • Second in the high team overall

“It was a long, hard week, and their hard work really paid off,” said Shayla Henrich, an agriculture science teacher at Hondo High School. “They are all very talented and hardworking students.”
