Josh Abbott Band announced as grand marshals of 2025 Battle of Flowers Parade

The 134th annual parade will be led by the band on Friday, May 2

SAN ANTONIO – The Josh Abbott Band has been selected as the grand marshals of the 2025 Battle of Flowers Parade at Fiesta.

Originally from Lubbock, the Texas country band will lead the 134th-annual parade.

“It’s truly a big honor and we are super excited,” Josh Abbott said in a statement. “We’ve played an event or two during Fiesta over the years, and so we understand how big of a cultural tradition it is in San Antonio and this just feels like a one-of-a-kind opportunity and honor.”

The band has connections to the Alamo City — bass player Jimmy Hartman is from Bulverde.

“When we play there, San Antonio has a culture. I think it’s different than any city in the U.S.,” Hartman told KSAT.

This year’s parade theme is “Melodies in Bloom - A Texas Serenade.” Many floats will pay homage to Texan artists across different genres.

The Battle of Flowers Parade is one of Fiesta’s signature events. Last year’s parade was led by San Antonio Food Bank CEO Eric Cooper.

The first Battle of Flowers Parade took place in 1891 by a group of San Antonio citizens who were looking to honor the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.

This year’s parade will start at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 2. Fiesta 2025 will take place from April 24 to May 4.

KSAT is the official Fiesta station and your source for all things Fiesta. KSAT will be streaming all parades on KSAT 12, KSAT.com and KSAT+, our free streaming app.
