FREDERICKSBURG, Texas – The Enchanted Rock State Natural Area will double in size with a recent expansion by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

On Monday, the TPWD announced the $43 million purchase of a 3,073-acre property adjacent to the state park in Llano County. The property will double the amount of publicly available land at Enchanted Rock, according to a news release.

Funding from the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund will be used to accelerate development and public use of the property.

The expansion features a rock formation that could provide a new scenic view of the pink granite dome the park is named for. Previously, the land was mainly used for private hunting.

TPWD will consult with the public to determine recreational opportunities for the property. An opening date has not been set.
