Prescribed burns scheduled for JBSA-Camp Bullis next week

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Those living near Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis may notice smoke and fire beginning Wednesday, Jan. 15, as a prescribed burn is scheduled to take place.

The prescribed burns are scheduled to last until Friday, Jan. 17.

The burns are intended to reduce fuel loads, such as dead vegetation and thick brush. Doing these prescribed burns will help lessen the risk of a wildfire.

JBSA said its Fire Emergency Services personnel are coordinating with local fire departments to ensure the incidents occur safely and within the scheduled timeline.

Crews will monitor weather conditions each day before starting the burn.

JBSA-Camp Bullis spans 27,000 acres in North Bexar County, near Interstate 10 and Loop 1604. It includes ranges, training areas and wildlands service members use for training.
