Much like KSAT meteorologist Adam Caskey, Shelby is a graduate of the University of North Dakota but attended high school in the Houston area.
Shelby answered a few questions to help viewers get to know her better.
Welcome back to Texas! How do you feel about coming back to the Lone Star State?
I’m very excited to be back! Texas welcomed me when I moved here 10 years ago, and I’ve missed it ever since. It just wasn’t the same while I was gone. Plus, I won’t have to endure those -40-degree temperatures anymore!
What are you excited to explore now that you’re in San Antonio?
I’m really looking forward to exploring the food scene and the local shops. I love going out and about in the afternoon, exploring stores, and enjoying a meal with family and friends.
What made you interested in the weather?
Hurricane Harvey in 2017 had a huge impact on my life. When the storm hit and I was home from school, I spent hours watching my local meteorologists cover it. That’s when I realized how much I was drawn to the weather — and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Which type of weather do you find the most intriguing, and what captivates you about it?
While I enjoy a good thunderstorm or blizzard, in my opinion, the most fascinating type of weather event is definitely a hurricane. There are so many moving parts, not just on a small scale, but on a much larger, more complex level. It’s a powerful reminder of nature’s force and the science behind predicting it.
While you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time?
I love relaxing with a good book, going for walks or catching up with friends and family. Bonus points if I can travel somewhere new too!
