Deputy arrested for bringing Whataburger to inmate at Bexar County jail, BCSO says

Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 27, was terminated immediately

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A Bexar County Sherriff’s Office deputy was arrested for bringing Whataburger to an inmate at the Bexar County jail, according to BCSO.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 27, was arrested on Friday morning for accepting a Cash App payment from an inmate’s relative to buy Whataburger for both himself and the inmate, the sheriff’s office said.

Jail administrators learned of the incident on Friday and began to question the deputy.

Rodriguez confirmed that he had purchased the food, brought it into the jail and delivered it to the inmate, BCSO said.

Rodriguez was hired in September 2024 and was assigned to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. He graduated in November 2024.

Rodriguez was charged with contraband in a correctional facility, a Class B misdemeanor. He bonded out of jail later in the day.

The deputy was terminated immediately following the arrest, BCSO said.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office’s Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an administrative investigation, while the Public Integrity Unit is handling the criminal investigation, authorities said.
