SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds of period products will soon be in the hands of middle school students across San Antonio.
A local group called Periodpalooza teamed up with the Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center to package 200 “emergency period kits” for local schools on Wednesday night.
“We just want to continue to find other ways to give out these products,” Olivia Orona, the marketing director of Periodpalooza, said.
Periodpalooza is a San Antonio-based group focused on addressing menstrual equity. The group has a free period pantry and regularly gives out products to people in need through donations.
“There is a gap right now and there is a need for menstrual supplies in our community,” Lauren Aguillon, the digital media and community outreach coordinator for the Rape Crisis Center, said. “This can plant the seed of the conversation and open the door to begin talking about period poverty, menstrual cycles and survivorship.”
If you missed the donation event on Wednesday, Periodpalooza has a list of businesses collecting donations on its social media pages.
