Planning to attend this year’s DreamWeek summit? Here are some events to attend

Annual city-wide summit to take place from Jan. 10-26

SAN ANTONIO – DreamWeek, an annual city-wide summit, returns to San Antonio this Friday.

The event encourages idea-sharing on global issues to promote tolerance, equality, and diversity.

San Antonio’s MLK March — touted as the largest in the nation — is one of over 200 events featured as part of DreamWeek.

People can expect to have symposiums, panel discussions, debates, film screenings, concerts and art exhibits at more than 100 locations throughout the city.

DreamWeek San Antonio will take place from Jan. 10-26.

This year’s theme is #WeAreNeighbor.

Some events are free to the public. However, some require a purchased ticket to attend some events.

Here’s a list of some events to look forward to during DreamWeek:

  • Coffee Lovers Run: If you love coffee and enjoy running, this event might be perfect for you. There’s still time left to register for either the 5K, 10K, or other races on Jan. 18, which will be held from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at Lady Bird Johnson Park. Click here for more details, as prices vary.
  • DreamBall: The event showcases selected San Antonio musical, theatrical, comedic and cultural performance artists. DreamBall will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight on Jan. 25 at the Aztec Theatre. Tickets are available here.
  • DreamHour Speaker Series: Guests can attend the speaker series, which features speakers such as Julissa Carielo, Teresa Garza, Laura Thompson and more. For details, such as times and dates of the events, click here.
  • Legacy Awards Ball: The Legacy Ball will celebrate “Black Excellence” while supporting the preservation of African American cultural heritage in San Antonio. The event will be held from 6:30-11 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the Witte Museum. For registration and more information, click here.
  • MLK March: The 38th-annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March will begin at 10 a.m. on Jan. 20 at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy. A park celebration at Pittman-Sullivan Park will follow it. The March lineup starts as early as 9 a.m. More details can be found here.
  • Opening ceremony: A breakfast ceremony will kick off from 7:30-9 a.m. on Jan. 10 at the Jack Guenther Pavilion at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, located at 210 W. Market St. The ceremony will celebrate the commencement of DreamWeek with a keynote speaker and remarks from San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and DreamVoice President Shokare Nakpodia.   • Ribbon Cutting: A ribbon cutting will celebrate the latest addition to the Bexar Heritage Center, highlighting the untold stories of African Americans who shaped the county. The event will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 at 100 Dolorosa St., Suite 110. The event is free and open to the public.
  • Resilient & Responsive: DreamWeek will continue to feature “Resilient and Responsive: Artists and The Environment Exhibit” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on selected days from Jan. 10-17 (Tuesday through Thursday). The exhibit is at Centro de Artes Gallery, 101 S. Santa Rosa Ave. This event is free and open to the public.
  • “Storytellers: Narrative Art and the West”: The Briscoe Western Art Museum will continue to present an exhibition that will give visitors a chance to learn about the rich history, culture, and landscapes of the Southwest. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on selected days from Jan. 10-19 at 210 W. Market St. Tickets to the museum can be purchased here.
  • YMLA MLK 5K: The Young Men’s Leadership Academy 5K run is a fundraising event for the academy. The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Martin Luther King Park, located at 3503 Martin Luther King Dr. Registration, which ends on Jan. 18, can be completed online.
  • Yoga: A list of yoga events will be hosted throughout DreamWeek. Some free sessions include Self-care Saturday at the San Antonio Botanical Garden, “Free Yoga on The Creek” and Mindfulness-Meditation. Details on dates, times and registration can be found online.
