What can visitors to the park expect?

  • Restrooms at the Comfort Station are closed until further notice, park officials said. Day-use hikers hiking the Summit Trail will now use portable toilets available at the trailhead.
  • The shower building campground restrooms will now only be open to campers from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Portable toilets in the campground area will be available at all other hours.
  • The restroom at park headquarters is closed for visitor use; park social media pages cite a mechanical failure as the cause for closure. Visitors are encouraged to check in with staff to enter the park before using the restroom.
  • Visitors should bring their own water for trips.

How long will the notices last?

A Texas Parks & Wildlife Department official told KSAT over the phone Friday the notice was indeterminate and predicated on the park receiving rain.

While high visitation and unsafe at the park contributed to the notice, the official said it happens frequently in the Hill Country.
