SAN ANTONIO – The 2024 Valero Alamo Bowl set a new viewership record with 8 million viewers tuning in to watch the game between No. 17 BYU and No. 23 Colorado in San Antonio.
The game aired on KSAT 12 (ABC) on Dec. 28, marking the highest non-College Football Playoff/New Year’s Six viewership since the 2019-20 Citrus Bowl between Michigan and Alabama.

The Valero Alamo Bowl’s previous top five most-watched games included the 2010 matchup between Michigan State and Texas Tech, which drew 7,829,470 viewers, and the 2006 game between Texas and Iowa, with 7,791,097 viewers.
Other notable games were the 2013 contest between Oregon and Texas, the 2016 game between Oregon and TCU, and the 2011 matchup between Washington and Baylor.
In addition to the television audience, a capacity crowd of 64,261 attended the game in person, witnessing BYU’s 36-14 victory over Colorado. This marked the 12th sellout in the bowl’s 32-year history and increased the average attendance during the College Football Playoff era to 60,530, or 93% of capacity, excluding the COVID-19 restricted year.
The 2024 game was the ninth Top 25 matchup in the 11 years of the College Football Playoff era for the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Previous notable matchups included UCLA vs. Kansas State in 2014, TCU vs. Oregon in 2015, and Oklahoma vs. Oregon in 2021.
