Man hit by passing vehicle, dies while trying to help drivers involved in crash on Loop 410, police say

Police: Drivers involved in two separate incidents were detained

SAN ANTONIO – A driver who pulled over to help at the scene of a car crash on Loop 410 was fatally hit by a passing vehicle, police said.

The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. Thursday on Loop 410 near Vance Jackson Road.

Castle Hills police said the initial crash happened when a driver was heading the wrong way on the westbound lanes on Loop 410 and struck another vehicle. No one was injured in that crash.

Some drivers who witnessed the crash stopped to help.

Police said one witness was struck by another car as he exited his vehicle.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified.

The wrong-way driver was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after testing three times the legal limit, police said.

The other driver who struck the good Samaritan was also taken into custody. At this time, it is unknown what charges, if any, they may face.

Police initially said the victim was involved in the initial wrong-way crash.

In an update on Thursday morning, officers told KSAT that the victim was not believed to be involved in the initial crash and had only stopped to assist.
