SAN ANTONIO – A new affordable apartment complex is being built southwest of downtown San Antonio.
Officials from the San Antonio Alternative Housing Corporation (SAAHC), the City of San Antonio and West Side community stakeholders broke ground on the apartment complex earlier this month.

The complex, located in the 1600 block of El Paso Street, will feature a total of 30 units, varying between one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.
Monthly rents will range from $388 to $1,475. Eighteen of the units will be set aside for residents with a qualified income up to 60% of the Area Median Income. Another 12 units will be set aside for people at 30% to 50% AMI.
Fifteen units will be ground level and will all meet American Disability Act accessibility standards.
Memorial Funeral Home used to be located at this property, but it will now be renovated into a community clubhouse, business center and property manager’s office.
Site amenities will include:
- 29 parking spaces
- Bike storage racks
- Rainwater collection and reuse will be used to supplement site irrigation
- High-speed internet service
- Landscaped irrigated with native Texas plants
This complex was secured through a San Antonio Housing Bond, which will fund construction and permanent financing for the development.
SAAHC is a nonprofit established in 1993. Its mission is to provide decent rental and ownership housing that is affordable to low-and moderate-income people in Texas.
There is no set date for the apartments to open.
