Man dodges dozens of bullets fired at home northwest of downtown

The man was hit by only one of about 40 rounds, officers say

SAN ANTONIO – A man is nursing a gunshot wound in his leg, the only shot that hit him out of about 40 fired in his direction, according to San Antonio police.

Police said the 39-year-old man was hit by the gunfire late Monday night while sitting outside a home on West Woodlawn Avenue not far from Interstate 10.

As many as three people drove up in a car just before 10 p.m., jumped out, and started shooting toward the home, SAPD said.

The shooters were gone when officers arrived.

A police report described the man’s wound as “non-life-threatening.”

Officers at the scene said it appeared there were about 40 shots fired from several different weapons.

Under daylight Tuesday morning, the damage done to the home was evident.

Walls and windows all across the front of it were left with bullet holes.

There was also damage from bullets on the metal railing of a nearby bridge.

A woman who lives in the area and speaks only Spanish told KSAT 12 News that she initially thought she was hearing fireworks, then became frightened when she realized it was gunfire.

The neighbor says one of her relatives called 9-1-1 while she and the others huddled inside their home, too afraid to even look outside.

She says she doesn’t understand why someone would’ve taken aim at that home and that the man who was shot was only visiting.

Police are still looking for the shooters.
