Prosecutors, RC Curtis' defense discuss evidence with judge in capital murder trial

Curtis is accused of killing Paula Boyd, his wife’s grandmother, in 2015

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A capital murder case that ended in a mistrial is now taking a step toward going to trial for a second time.

Bexar County prosecutors and the defense attorney for R.C. Curtis went before a Bexar County judge on Friday to make sure all evidence was made available to both sides.

Curtis is accused of killing Paula Boyd, his wife’s grandmother, in 2015.

In 2021, Curtis' case was declared a mistrial after the judge determined that prosecutors presented new evidence that raised the possibility of additional suspects that could have been involved in Boyd’s murder.

Boyd was also a beloved H-E-B employee.

Earlier this month, the start date for Curtis' second trial was officially put on hold when Curtis' attorney notified the judge that the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office had not turned over cellphone evidence from Boyd’s phone in a timely manner.

Curtis’ new re-trial date has not yet been determined.
