Healthcare officials say these items can easily be ingested and may need to be surgically removed to avoid complications.

If a parent or caregiver suspects that their child has swallowed a small part, they should seek immediate medical care.

Here are a few recommendations when purchasing holiday toys:

  • Ensure the items are age-appropriate.
  • Read all instructions and warning labels.
  • Purchase toys from reputable retailers.
  • Look out for product recalls.
  • Always supervise children around items that contain small parts.
