All restroom stall doors are still in place

School officials at Boerne Independent School District have removed the entrance doors from the hallway that led into restrooms at Champion High School.

Door removals are part of a result of the school having an uptick of vaping incidents in bathrooms at the high school.

Mirrors were also removed to avoid any line of sight into the restroom from the hallway. All restroom stall doors are still in place.

To help stop vaping in school, the campus leadership team has adjusted hallway duty assignments during passing periods. The campus Safety & Security staff will monitor restrooms during class time as part of their campus-wide checks.

“Safety and security is always our highest priority and we take all information shared with us seriously,” said an official with the district.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, an individual must be at least 21 years of age to legally buy or own tobacco products, including e-cigarettes or vape devices.

Possession or use of any e-cigarette device is prohibited by the Texas Education Code and the BISD Student Code of Conduct.

“We will follow the BISD Student Code of Conduct to the fullest extent possible when reviewing potential student discipline,” said an official with the district.

The district said they appreciate the support of parents and the community in their efforts to keep students safe while at school.
