SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio said its Lower Broadway road reconstruction project is weeks away from completion.
According to a press release from the City of San Antonio’s Public Works Department, Broadway will be paved for the final time starting Monday.
The paving is expected to be complete by mid-October.
Beginning at Broadway and Roy Smith Street, the city said paving will be completed in rolling in three to four-block increments and will continue south towards Houston Street.
Broadway will be closed within those three to four-block increments. Each will take at least three days to complete, officials said.
Detours will direct drivers to North Alamo Street and Avenue B. All businesses will remain open during the construction period.
Once the paving is complete, road striping, sidewalks, landscaping and traffic signals will follow.
This project will bring wider sidewalks, trees, pedestrian lighting, enhanced traffic signals and crosswalks, the release said.
“We are excited for this project to take one big step closer to finishing,” City of San Antonio public works director Razi Hosseini said in the news release. “The end product will be a brand new roadway with upgraded utilities and a much-improved pedestrian experience.”
The Lower Broadway project has been under construction since January.
