Several units damaged after fire breaks out at Northwest Side apartment complex

Fire reported in the 5800 block of NW Loop 410, near Bandera Road

SAN ANTONIO – Six units at an apartment complex on the Northwest Side were severely damaged during a fire on Wednesday, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

SAFD public information officer Joe Arrington said the fire started just before 11 a.m. in the 5800 block of NW Loop 410, near Bandera Road.

When firefighters arrived, evacuations were already underway, he said. No one was injured.

The fire seemed to have started between the first and second floors, and heavy smoke was seen coming from the second floor, Arrington said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames before noon and were checking for hotspots.

The fire was contained to half of the building, which had 16 units. Twelve of those units were occupied.

Arrington said six units had severe fire and water damage, and almost all of the units had smoke issues.

“We’re working to ventilate that smoke,” he said.

Residents in damaged units will be relocated to other units or the complex’s sister property.

The cause is under investigation.
