‘Are you f***ing stupid?’: SAPD officer suspended after confronting fellow officer arrested for DWI

Kristina Cobarrubias has been with SAPD for 5 years, records show

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police officer served a three-day suspension for her response to an arrest of a fellow officer and a heated confrontation, records show.

According to suspension records, Kristina Cobarrubias showed up to a June 2024 multi-vehicle crash near North 1604 West and Babcock. UTSA police arrested off-duty SAPD officer Damean Segovia for driving while intoxicated.

Cobarrubias asked the handling sergeant if she could speak with Segovia, who was sitting in a patrol car, records state. The interaction was recorded.

“Are you f***ing stupid?” Cobarrubias told Segovia, according to the suspension report.

The UTSA sergeant said Cobarrubias actions “may not be good if this case goes to court,” the report says. The sergeant said that she felt like Cobarrubias “almost placed blame” on Segovia before he provided a breath sample. The sergeant said she allowed Cobarrubias to speak with Segovia out of empathy.

Cobarrubias did not turn on her body camera when speaking with the officer or Segovia, according to the report. She also did not notify a supervisor before leaving the scene.

City records show Cobarrubias has been with SAPD since September 2019.

As for Segovia, SAPD said he had been on patrol for a year before the arrest and was placed on administrative leave.

Court records show Segovia is expected back in court in February 2025.
