Learning a new language: Is 2025 the year to take on this goal?

How I'm preparing for my Spain trip in 2025—with Babbel (via StackCommerce)

At the start of 2025, I set a goal to learn Spanish again. Why? For starters, I figured adding another language to my resume would help me attract new job opportunities. But the real reason I’m relearning Spanish is because I’ve planned a trip to Barcelona, Madrid, and Granada this year!

I’ve seen ads for Babbel online, and I hate paying for subscriptions, so when I saw a Babbel lifetime subscription was only $129.99 with code LEARN40 (reg. $599), I decided to go for it. If you’re also interested, you only have February 2 to jump on this discount.

My Babbel experience

While Babbel offers lessons in 14 languages, I knew I wanted to go straight to Spanish and get as much studying time as possible before my big Spain trip.

It’s easy for me to get sidetracked, so I loved how the app lets me set my learning goal and daily notifications so I’d always keep up with my Spanish journey. From there, I decided to dive in, especially since Babbel’s lessons are less than 10 minutes long (perfect for my short attention span).

Honestly, these lessons were so short that I took five lessons in a row without even realizing it. I started with relearning how to introduce myself to friends and family, how to talk about myself, and even how to pronounce the Spanish alphabet, which I had long forgotten since my high school Spanish classes.

I’ve always had a knack for nailing new accents and pronunciation, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that Babbel came with its own proprietary speech technology. I put it to the test and found there was still room for improvement, which I appreciated since I definitely don’t want to make any pronunciation mistakes when I’m on my trip (or if I’m trying to flirt in Spanish).

All in all, I’m seriously impressed with Babbel and its intuitive lessons. They’re more engaging than other platforms I’ve used, and I actually do think I could reach fluency with consistent studying.

Join me in learning Spanish—or one of Babbel’s 13 other languages—by grabbing a lifetime subscription to Babbel, now just $129.99 with coupon code LEARN40 through February 2 at 11:59 p.m. PT!
