On Essex St behind industrial fencing are the slowly fading artworks of what was San Antonio's largest outdoor mural gallery. The gallery was known as Essex Modern City. The developers of the gallery planned to expand the site into a multi use urban space similar to the Pearl, but the project was abandoned in June of 2022.

Let’s RODEO!! Walked the grounds had fun!

Our first year in San Antonio, TX, we didn't visit the rodeo. We were busy adjusting to life, moving into the city, traveling back and forth to CA to pick up our items that were in storage. Last year, we did a quick trip in a morning -no more than 2 hours where we watched a fun Muttin Bustin' show and ate a funnel cake before heading out. This year, oh this year, we actually went and saw what it had to offer! We went to the actual rodeo events. We were thoroughly impressed. Not only did it start off with a prayer and a tribute to our country with the National Anthem (something that would NEVER happen back home in any sporting event or county fair), but the rodeo provides scholarships and opportunities for youth of ALL talents. Art, taxidermy, rodeo talents, etc. It was so eye opening to see that it was more than a show. It was the TEXAS way. The rodeo events themselves are a lot of fun to watch. The talent of the cowboys and cowgirls, the love they show the animals, the training, the humor of the rodeo clowns, all of it was amazing. To date this year, we have gone twice and I am looking forward to at least another 1-2 visits. I know this weekend they are doing Charreada, which I am really looking forward to. Bringing our Hispanic culture to the rodeo and traditions. If you see us there, come say hi!
