Storms leave damage as San Antonio turns hot, sunny

FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS

STORM DAMAGE: Downed trees, debris are scattered throughout San Antonio from Friday night’s wind storm, leaving thousands without power
RAINFALL TOTALS: Friday’s storms left plenty of damage and over 2″ of rain
THIS WEEKEND: Mostly sunny and hot, highs in the upper 90s.
EARLY WEEK: Isolated sea breeze showers possible near the Coastal Plains; otherwise dry.
FEELING LIKE SUMMER: Continued hot weather with highs in the 90s and only slight rain chances.

RAINFALL TOTALS FROM FRIDAY

The storms last night left plenty of damage from severe winds. Nearly 50,000 CPS customers are still without power as of Saturday evening. If you are without power for an extended period of time, the city of is offering free cooling centers as temperatures will push near 100 Sunday afternoon. Here is a look at Friday’s rainfall totals.

THIS WEEKEND

Rain chances are essentially finished for San Antonio through the weekend, with mostly dry conditions expected area-wide. A small and very brief pop-up shower could develop near the coast and attempt to travel farther inland. Any activity that pops is going to provide insignificant rainfall and cooling.

Expect plenty of sunshine and hot afternoon temperatures on Sunday. Highs will climb into the upper 90s across much of the area, with some locations approaching the 100-degree mark.

While temperatures will be hot, the good news is that most communities should remain just shy of the triple-digit heat that has dominated much of August.

EXTENDED FORECAST

The extended forecast offers a welcome change from recent weeks, with temperatures expected to stay below 100 degrees for much of the upcoming week. Isolated showers and thunderstorms, driven by the afternoon sea breeze, may develop along the Coastal Plains. Besides this, most of San Antonio and South Central Texas can expect a stretch of hot and mainly dry weather.
