The San Antonio Parks Foundation says Celebrate SA will take place at Hemisfair, on the River Walk and the streets of downtown. The party will start at 6 p.m. on New Yearโs Eve and continue with fireworks at midnight. It is free and open to the public.

The history behind the first settlers of Texas and the villas they created
SAN ANTONIO โ When discussing Tejano history you would have to mention the first settlers to the area in the late 1600s and early 1700s. Those first settlers were soldiers hand-picked because they had families and knew how to ranch. โThey bring with them morals and their standards.โWhen those first soldiers came to the area they created villas or towns. โThe villas are important to every community because itโs the actual genesis, for the growth of communities that come later,โ Rodriguez said. Fall festival at La Villita to take place of NIOSA with limited-ticket event
SAN ANTONIO โ This year will deliver a pumpkin-spiced, scaled-back version of NIOSA in November. The Conservation Society of San Antonio announced it will hold a โFall Heritage Festivalโ in La Villita that will have โcomparisonsโ to NIOSA โ just with a 1,000-attendance limit and admission of $125 per person. While the fall festival will be larger this year, Zaiontz said it โis nothing new for The Society.โ This will be COSAโs 10th fall festival, she said. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the San Antonio Food Bank. Fiesta San Antonio was canceled entirely due to the coronavirus pandemic in July.
Meet artists behind San Antonio's life-sized sugar skulls
SAN ANTONIO โ San Antonio will soon celebrate its first ever Dia de Los Muertos river parade, and starting this weekend ,you may see some life-sized skulls on display throughout La Villita and the Pearl. A team of eight artists is creating the Day of the Dead skulls, including contemporary artist Andy Benavides. "I had this interest in covering this whole thing in mirrors," Benavides said. "On many levels, it was a gift to the ancestral memories, as well as a literal gift to the city," Benavides said. Benavides said in addition to the eight skulls worked on in San Antonio, there will be eight more produced by artists in Mexico City.

SAN ANTONIO โ The Day of the Dead San Antonio 2019 Festival will be free, organizers announced Wednesday. The free tickets are available online. "Day of the Dead San Antonio is an event open to all who want to celebrate and remember those who have passed, and we can think of no better way to truly welcome everyone than by making the event free for everyone to enjoy," said Javier Ruiz Galindo, president and CEO of Day of the Dead San Antonio. The festival kicks off Nov. 1 with the Catrinas on the River Parade, the city's first Dia de Los Muertos River Parade.
