‘The Color Purple, the Musical’ hits Woodlawn Theatre stage for first time
Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Price-winning novel that was later turned into a popular Steven Spielberg 1985 film featuring Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey, the show tells the heartwarming story of Celie’s tough, but inspiring life.
Woodlawn Theatre going back to movie theater roots with new ‘Summer Movie Nights’ series
SAN ANTONIO – This year to celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Woodlawn Theatre is hosting a weekly movie night. Starting this Friday, people can watch a movie musical for $10 on the theater’s big screen. All ticket sales will go to help the Woodlawn Theatre and Woodlawn Theatre Academy. To make sure guests stay safe, the theater will not exceed 50% capacity and no tickets will be sold in person but must be purchased online. Broadway show ‘Come From Away’ brings Newfoundland to San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, Texas. North Park Lexus Broadway in San Antonio is hosting a special donation drive at the Majestic Theatre along with the Broadway show “Come From Away” for the Corazon Ministries at Travis Park Church. The musical is about strangers coming together to help one another during a difficult time, so it’s fitting this donation drive is happening alongside this fantastic musical. The donation drive runs from Tuesday, Feb 25 to Sunday, March 1. “These Shining Lives” shines brightly at The Sheldon Vexler Theater
The Sheldon Vexler Theater Located in The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Campus of the San Antonio Jewish Community describes their latest show as "The true account of four women who worked for the Radium Dial Company watch factory in the late 20’s and early 30’s, the play chronicles the danger women faced in the American workforce, and the lack of concern by companies for protecting the health of its employees. STOMP crashes into the Tobin Center this weekend
The “international percussion sensation” STOMP is at the Tobin Center this weekend for 3 performances. Tickets start at $27, and included with admission is a special post-show Q&A session with cast members for select performances. The Music Man marches into the Woodlawn Theatre
Woodlawn Theatre – The Woodlawn Theatre is kicking off the year with their production of The Music Man. The show as about a con man named Harold Hill who tries to dupe the residents of River City, Iowa with his moneymaking scheme first debuted on Broadway in 1957. For this production, the Woodlawn has partnered with the nonprofit YOSA(Youth Orchestras of San Antonio) and will be collecting new or used musical instruments and supplies to support the music education programs that reach more than 2,500 young musicians throughout San Antonio each year. Get an inside look at the Broadway tour of Miss Saigon
Majestic Theater – For Jackie Nguyen & Matthew Overberg being in the ensemble for the National tour of Miss Saigon is more than just a job. Both have personal connections to the story about a young girl named Kim forced to work in a bar after her family is killed in the Vietnam war. They sat down with KSAT News @ Nine producer Lexi Salazar to share their connection to the show and tell what audiences can expect from this Broadway classic. Backstage- Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
The Woodlawn Theatre is bringing the Australian outback to San Antonio with their production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The show is based on the 1994 movie of the same name. During the run of the show, the Woodlawn Theatre is collecting toiletries to benefit the SA Aids Foundation. The musical does contain adult themes and language, and the theater suggest patrons be over 18. The show runs every weekend until November 4th and tickets range from $18-$30.
Backstage- Magical Mary Poppins flies into The Public Theater
The Public Theater of San Antonio is opening their new season with the family-friendly musical Mary Poppins. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the Disney film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, the musical tells the story of a magical nanny who inspires a family.
