San Antonio lawmaker to file utility reform bills to address power crisis in Texas Legislature
State Rep. Steve Allison represents District 121, which includes parts of north central and northeast San Antonio, as well as the cities of Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and Olmos Park. SAN ANTONIO – A state lawmaker from San Antonio plans to file two bills in the Texas Legislature regarding the power crisis that has left residents of Bexar County and millions of other Texans without electricity and water. “But I was surprised to learn that they, too, were without power and not afforded any emergency priority treatment.”Allison plans to file the bills in the Texas House soon. “I recognize that the cow is already out of the barn and the current crisis requires far more attention and resolution so we never suffer through something like this again,” Rep. Allison said. Greg Abbott declared the reform of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) an emergency item this legislative session.
Proposed bill would require Texas high school students to take a mental health class
David’s Law, which was named after David Molak, was passed into law in 2017 with the help of the District 25 senator. The three new bills drafted are:SB 405 would require students to take one mental health class in high school. SB 406 would require school board and trustee members to take a course on trauma-informed school care. “We saw a decrease in 23% of our students across the state of Texas who had tried to take their own life after David’s Law passed,” David’s mother, Maurine Molak said. “It’s really important for us to make sure that they all know that they’re not alone.”Related:David’s Law, aimed at combating cyberbullying, signed into lawCyberbullying and mental health: How is it tied to depression?

ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas – The enclave city of Alamo Heights is known for its historical homes, so entirely new home construction in the area is rare. However, there is a new set of villas being built just outside Alamo Heights city limits but they’re still within the city’s school district. Quarry Heights Villas is building 13 customizable townhome villas with six different floorplans in an anticipated gated community. Prices for the private enclave townhomes will start at $1 million and floorplan sizes range from 2,800 to 3,600 square feet, according to the website.
