Poteet Strawberry Festival will ‘strongly encourage’ guests to wear face masks
SAN ANTONIO – Organizers of the Poteet Strawberry Festival will require volunteers and staff to wear face coverings but will only ask guests to do the same. The Poteet Strawberry Festival Association on Monday said they “strongly encourage” the use of masks during the event that will bring food, live music and a carnival to the town on April 9-11. Greg Abbott will lift the statewide mask mandate. KSAT has reached out to the Poteet Strawberry Festival to see if it will update the capacity limit. Organizers said the festival is a “crucial source of funding” for the community.

SAN ANTONIO – After organizers announced this week that the Poteet Strawberry Festival would return this spring, many questioned about the safety protocols and expressed concern over the idea of being around a large crowd. In a statement to KSAT 12, the Poteet Strawberry Festival Association has clarified why the festival was brought back and released their safety plan. Carol Rivera a member of the association told KSAT 12 that the decision to bring the festival back in 2021 wasn’t made lightly. As a result, the association has been hit hard by the pandemic and had no income in 2020, according to Rivera. In addition, the non-profit organizations, small businesses and the local strawberry farmers all affiliated with the festival were also hit hard.
Poteet Strawberry Festival to return this spring despite COVID-19 pandemic
SAN ANTONIO – There is a countdown displayed on the Poteet Strawberry Festival website announcing the return of the event in April. In a Facebook post, a digital flyer says “We’re Back” with the dates April 9, 10 and 11. There are hundreds of comments on the post with some saying that they were excited for the event’s return while others questioned whether it was a good idea because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We reached out to festival organizers for comment, but have yet to hear back. Currently, Atascosa County where Poteet is located has close to 300 active cases of the new coronavirus and 18 people have died from COVID-19 complications.

39th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival in May canceled
SAN ANTONIO – Another popular festival has been canceled. The Tejano Conjunto Festival, which was supposed to take place May 13-17 at the Guadalupe Theater and Rosedale Park, was officially canceled on Wednesday, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center announced. Every year the popular festival draws thousands of fans to listen to over 30 of the most popular and emerging bands. Poteet Strawberry Festival postponed; new dates are Oct. 30-Nov. 1
POTEET, Texas – The Poteet Strawberry Festival has been postponed and organizers are rescheduling the popular event for Oct. 30-Nov. 1. The festival was scheduled for April 3-5, but with concerns about the coronavirus, directors and other key stakeholders decided it was best to postpone the festival. The festival is the latest in a series of popular San Antonio-area events to be affected due to the coronavirus. Fiesta San Antonio, which was scheduled for April 16-26, was postponed and South by Southwest in Austin was canceled.
