Grandmother starts organization in honor of grandchild killed on Motherโs Day
A San Antonio grandmother is keeping her granddaughterโs spirit alive through a non-profit organization she started in her honor. Her granddaughter, Saryah Perez, 6, was shot and killed during a car meet during what San Antonio police say was a dispute on Motherโs Day.
Vulnerable SAHA residents in need of donations in aftermath of winter storms
SAN ANTONIO โ The San Antonio Housing Authority is asking the community for donations to help some of the cityโs most vulnerable residents in the aftermath of historic winter weather, which left many with no access to necessities. SAHA is asking community members to donate water, non-perishable food items and adult diapers for elderly and disabled residents who were severely affected by the winter storms. They also said many of these residents have limited mobility or transportation to go to grocery stores. SAHA is accepting donations at its main office, located at 820 S. Flores Street, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The housing authority has partnered with the San Antonio Food Bank to coordinate a food box drop-off at several properties.

SAN ANTONIO โ More than 100 nonprofits are looking for a plan-B after Fiesta San Antonio 2020 was canceled after officials had postponed the event for November. Fiesta San Antonio canceled in 2020, officials announceBarton Simpson, the commander of the Texas Cavaliers, said his organization was prepared but disappointed by the cancellation. Simpson said organization members are committed to working hard for those agencies so they can make it to the next Fiesta event. Campbell says about $100,000 in presold tickets for the 2020 Fiesta event has been donated back to the organization since the event was canceled.
9-year-old boy celebrates his birthday with a canned food drive instead of a party
One child in particular really stood out: A boy who decided he wanted to give back to the community for his 9th birthday. Erica Gamboa said her son, Mason, wanted to use his birthday this year to help out locally. Thatโs when the idea of a canned food drive came in. โWe were able to collect $485, and also a lot of canned goods,โ Gamboa said. The canned goods Mason collected on his birthday.

San Antonio Food Bank, NEISD partner to feed families in need
SAN ANTONIO โ The San Antonio Food Bank is working with the North East Independent School District to make sure families living in the district are being fed. The food bank kicked off the first of four food drives scheduled for the district this month on Wednesday and served about 1,800 families. Volunteers who helped during the drive included teachers, counselors and the National Guard. Families who want to take part in upcoming drives must register online.

Boys & Girls Clubs donate food to those in need during coronavirus pandemic
SAN ANTONIO โ The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio may not be able to host their Club Kids due to the coronavirus pandemic, but theyโre still actively engaged in the community. On Thursday, lines of cars were able to pick up packages of food downtown. Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio distribute food to needy familiesThe San Antonio Food Bank provides fresh produce while the club provides dry goods. You donโt need to be a club member to receive emergency food. On Wednesday, the club is scheduled to distribute food at its clubhouse next to Martin Luther King Park.
