WATCH: Steers escape trailer, run loose on Houston highway

Sheriff confirms all animals safely recovered

HOUSTON, Texas – Loose cattle on the I-45 North Freeway in Houston caused udder chaos on Monday afternoon.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said several steers ran loose in the area near SH-99 for hours.

They were being transported from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and escaped their trailer when its door came unlatched before noon, according to KPRC, KSAT’s sister station in Houston.

KTRK reported the livestock was headed to Polk County.

Gonzalez initially estimated that around 30 cows might have been loose, but KTRK reported that only about six steers actually escaped.

At 4:19 p.m., Gonzalez posted on X that all animals had been accounted for and secured.

No crashes were reported, according to KPRC.
