BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – One of three suspects arrested in connection with Monday’s deadly shooting in northeast Bexar County has been identified as the gunman, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a news conference.
Martin Sanchez Jr., 58, faces a murder charge, according to the sheriff. He was also charged Monday with tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair and failure to report felony with serious bodily injury or death results.
After a two-day investigation, Salazar said deputies were able to find enough evidence to identify Sanchez as the alleged shooter.
Investigators listened to a phone call from the Bexar County Adult Detention Center that involved Sanchez, according to the sheriff.
“During the course of that jail phone call, (Martin Sanchez) states several times that he shot the man that eventually died,” Salazar said.
As of noon Wednesday, Sanchez’s murder charge has not yet been added to his online Bexar County court records. This article will be updated once those details become available.
According to a BCSO spokesperson, the weapon used in the alleged murder was located between residences near the intersection of West Silver Sands Drive and Sandman Street.
Deputies responded to the shooting at approximately 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Waterside Drive and Crestway Road.
Upon arrival, deputies located a 31-year-old man, later identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as Andrew Locke, unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds inside a black Mitsubishi Lancer.
Locke was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Two other suspects — Kyle Erin Torres-Carcovich, 45; and Robert Barnett, 38 — were also arrested Monday in connection with the shooting.
According to court records, Torres-Carcovich and Barnett were charged with failure to report a felony with serious bodily injury or death results, which is considered a Class A misdemeanor.
