The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as 63-year-old Josefina Villarreal. Her cause and manner of death are pending as of Wednesday night, the medical examiner’s office said.
According to police, a male driver turned onto the northbound lanes of Roosevelt Avenue from Sanco Street and hit Villarreal, who was walking.
The vehicle dragged her for about one block before stopping, police said.
The man told investigators he did not see Villarreal prior to the crash, an officer at the scene told KSAT.
First responders pronounced Villarreal dead at the scene.
SAPD said the driver, who stayed at the scene, is not expected to face charges at this point. Investigators were speaking with at least three witnesses to the crash, police said.
